Scene I
Music begins to play. Jen the Hen and her chickens step on the stage singing the song "My Chickens".
Cluck, cluck, oh, my chickens, Cluck, cluck, cluck, cluck, oh, my chickens, Little lovely, fluffy chickens, White and yellow little chickens.
(twice)
Jen the Hen (sings addressing her chickens and inviting them to nibble some grass): I am waiting: come, come, come, come, Grass for you will be like a plum.
Oh, you, my lovely chickens, (twice)
Oh, you, my fluffy chickens.
(The chickens dance and sing with their mother.)
Little lovely, fluffy chickens. Cluck, cluck, oh, my chickens,
Cluck, cluck, cluck, cluck, oh, my chickens, (twice)
Little lovely, fluffy chickens, White and yellow little chickens
(Jen the Hen to the children in the hall.)
Hello, my dear friends. I am Jen the Hen. I live in a very nice house in Green Street. I have got three lovely chickens. Here they are: (Molly steps forward.)
Molly: Hello, my friends. My name is Molly. (She sings.)
That's my mother,
That's my mother,
That's my Mum,
That's my Mum.
That's my little sister,
That's my little brother,
She is fine, he is fine.
(Now Dolly steps forward.)

Dolly: Hi, I'm Dolly. I'm glad to meet you. I have a mother,
I have a sister, I have a brother Tom. How I love them all! (Tommy sings): My name is Tommy, My name is Tommy, My name is Tommy, That's my name, That's my name.
(At this time Jen the Hen's friends appear on the stage playing with a ball. Jen the Hen introduces them to the children.)
Jen the Hen: Meet my friends: Tug the Dog, Pam the Cat and Quack the Duck.
Tug the Dog: I'm a funny little dog.
My name is Tug the Dog.
My head is white,
My nose is black.
I play sports every day.
Such fun I have,
When I run and play
Such clever tricks
I can do.
I can do this,
I can do that. (He does some exercises.)
Pam the Cat: Hi, I am Pam the Cat.
Cats here, cats there,
Cats and Kittens everywhere.
Hundreds of cats,
Thousands of cats,
Millions and billions and trillions of cats.
Quack the Duck: Hello, my name is Quack the Duck.
Father Duck goes for a swim,
Mother Duck comes out with him,
And behind them, nice and clean
Seven yellow ducklings swim.
Seven little yellow balls.
"Quack, quack, quack", the mother calls.
What a pretty sight they make,
Swimming in the lake!
(Then three friends sing and dance all together joining hands.) We are three little friends, We are lucky, we are happy. We like to sing and dance and play. We are three little friends.
Scene II
Jet the Hen shows the chickens some seeds. Jen the Hen: My dear children, I have got some seeds. I want to plant them. Then we will have many plants.
Molly: Oh, how clever you are, dear Mummy!

Jen the Hen: Let's go to our friends and ask them to help me.
(At that time Jen the Hen's friends run up in turn. They are playing with a ball, skipping or playing tug. Jen the Hen addresses the dog):
Hi, Tuggy. How are you? I want to plant some seeds. Can you help me?
Tug the Dog: I'd love to, but I can't help you. I want to play.
Oh, Jen the Hen, Jen the Hen,
Come again another day.
Little Tuggy wants to play.
(Then the cat runs up)
Pam the Cat: Oh, Jen the Hen! How are you?
Jen the Hen: Fine, thanks. I want to plant some seeds. Can you help me? Pam the Cat: What a pity, but I don't like to work. I like to sing and dance (She begins to sing and dance):
Come, my friends and dance with me, Dance with me, dance with me. One step back, one step out Then you turn yourself about.
(Then Jen the Hen sees her friend Quack the Duck who appears on the stage playing with a ball.)
Jen the Hen: How nice to see you, my dear friend. Can you help me plant some seeds? Quack the Duck: Oh, no, I'm sorry, but I can't. My friends and I want to go to the sports ground.
Hide-and-seek we like to play Oh, what fun! Oh, what fun! Leap-and-frog is a pretty game,
Oh, what fun! Oh, what fun! (She addresses the dog and the cat) Do you want to play hop-scotch?
Tug the Dog and Pam the Cat (together): Oh, yes, yes, we do. Quack the Duck: And my friends want to play, And I too, and I too. (They run away).
Jen the Hen (she looks upset): I am very sorry, my dear children, my friends are lazy. They don't want to work. Can you, my little chickens, help me plant the seeds? Chickens: Oh, yes. Of course, we can. With pleasure We will help you.

Scene III
Jen the Hen holds a bucket labelled "FLOUR" in her hand.
Jen the Hen: Now we have got so much flour. I know how to make cakes for my chickens and my friends.
(At this moment the three friends appear on the stage playing and laughing).
Jen the Hen: How nice to see you. I have got a lot of flour now. Can you help me make some cakes?
Tug the Dog: I don't want to help you make the cakes, I'm sorry.
Pam the Cat: I'm sorry, but I don't like working.
Quack the Duck: I want to play but not to work.
Jen the Hen: What a pity, my friends are lazy.
(Jen the Hen looks unhappy, she is disappointed in her friends.)
Dolly: What's the matter with you, Mum?
Jen the Hen: I'm very unhappy, my friends are very lazy, they don't want to help me to make cakes.
Molly: Dear Mummy, don't worry.
Tommy: We can help you, Mum.
Jen the Hen: Thank you, my dear children. Let's go and make some cakes. (Now she looks more cheerful).
Scene IV
In a very cosy room Jen the Hen and her chickens are laying the table: they cover the table with a nice cloth and put cups, sugar and sweets on it. Jen the Hen brings a dish with a pile of cakes and puts on the table. They are ready to sit down at the table, but at that moment the three friends run into the room. They look hungry. Their hungry eyes are fixed on the cakes.
Jen the Hen (ironically): Glad to see you! Do you want to help us eat the cakes?
Tug the Dog: Oh, yes. I'm hungry as a hunter.
Pam the Cat: Of course, we do. I'm very, very hungry.
Quack the Duck: With great pleasure. I'm hungry too. And the cakes look so nice and sweet.
Jen the Hen: Yes, you are right. The cakes are very sweet. But you are lazy and I don't want to give you any cakes. I want to feed my little chickens. They are not lazy, they always help me.
(Then the friends begin to cry and whimper one after another):
- Oh, dear Jen the Hen, we are very, very sorry.
- We will be good friends.
- We will always help you.
Jen the Hen: OK. It will be a good lesson for you. Now you are welcome to the table. Here are cakes for you to eat
And some water. Come and drink.

(She sings the song "My chickens" (part II):
Oh, you, my lovely chickens,
Oh, you, my fluffy chickens.
(Now all the characters sing together.)
