REGULARITIES OF A PALLADIUM PLATE SHAPE CHANGE UPON ITS

ONE-SIDE HYDROGEN SATURATION AND SUBSEQUENT DEGASSING

Shape change regularity of a palladium plate upon one-side hydrogenization and subsequent degassing was researched in a range of temperatures from 150°C up to 100C°.

The used in this study plate-shaped samples 68x5.5x0.28mm in size were annealed in a vacuum of 10-2Torr at 600°C for 1 h and furnace cooled to 20°C. Then upper side of the sample was electroplated with copper. The thickness of the copper coating was 1.5^m. It provided one-side hydrogenization and degassing of the plate with hydrogen. The sample was horizontally fixed at one end. The displacement of free end of the sample was

observed through a special window of the working chamber. For each temperature the pressure of hydrogen was varied from (3^5)x103Pa up to critical pressure of a^P transformation.

The experimental studies performed established that upon one-side hydrogenization and subsequent degassing with hydrogen of various pressures and at various temperatures the Pd-plate regularly changes the form. Thus for complete cycle of hydrogenization-degassing it is possible to seem what the shape-changing is largely reversible. At the first stage of cycle (hydrogenization) two shape-changing components can be detected: reversible and irreversible. It is possible to seem, that the detected experimentally regularities of irreversible shape-changing at the stage of hydroginization can be related not only with arising microplastic deformations, but also with braking of the concentration gradient decreasing process on thickness of plate by hydro-elastic

stresses.

AUTOMATED STANDARD POROSIMETER (ASP) AND METHOD OF STANDARD POROSIMETER

The Automated Standard Porosimeter in an ultramodern device which enables to obtain a vast complex of information with the minimum efforts. The ASP provides with... -new complete information -simplicity of handing with maximum accuracy -non-destructive method of product control -compactness -universality of the method

-applicability to any materials (including soft, frail and amalgamated materials; powders) -absence of ecological problems (ecological purity)

The ASP gives the possibility to obtain information about... -integral and differential distribution functions of pore volume according to the pore radii (in the range from ~ 1 nm to 3x105 nm); -mean pore radius; specific pore volume (porosity);

-specific surface area (in the range from 10-3 to 10+3 m2/cm3); distribution function of the pore surface according to the pore radii; -liquid distribution according to the values of the free binding energy material with liquid (in the range from 10-3 to 10+4 J/mole); -differential characteristics of swelling;

-different structural properties of multicomponent hydrophilic-hydrophobic bodies; -adsorption isotherms;

-wetting angle and its dependence on pore radius, etc. Main fields of application:

Any porous and dispersed products can be investigated with the help of the ASP, such as:

- membranes, separators, filters,

- catalysts, absorbents, ceramics, metalloceramics,

- battery, fuel cell and electrolyzer electrodes,

- textiles, artificial and natural leather, medicines,

- soils, ground, wood, construction materials,

- abrasives (e.g. grinding wheels or bars),

- oil and gas rocks etc., etc. Undisputable adventages of the ASP

-can be applied to any material (including metals which easily form amalgams) -can be applied to compressible powders without distortion of their structure

-possibility of structural investigations of swelling and/or compressible materials in their operational environment (water or other liquids, pressure, etc.)

-high amount of information, especially for swelling materials, multicomponent hydrophilic-hydrophobic systems, etc. -possibility of investigation of structural changes in one and the same specimen during various chemical technological processes -accuracy and sensitivity are higher in comparison with the method of mercury porosimetry, but -complete absence of mercury or other toxic materials -absence of errors due to changes of the mercury wetting angle
