Vasiliev V.S. Economic Crises and the Cycles of Solar Activity

Theoretical concepts and views of the economists of last two centuries devoted to the revealing of fundamental causes of the world economies cyclical nature are analyzed. Main emphasis is put on the attempts to connect the economic cycles with the solar ones stemmed from the pioneering works of W. Jevons published in the second half of 1870s. The contemporary forecasting models of interconnection between the solar and economic cycles are analyzed with main emphasis on the correlation of maximums of sunspots number and recessions of 1980, 1990-1991 and 2001. Along with economic benefits, this activity gives China a serious military advantage as well. Such situation requires the reconsideration of US National Security Strategy. In the article the author considers the actual evolution of ideological platform of the U.S. Republican Party. It appeals to religious conservatism more and more and strives for consolidation of the religious electorate. This tendency is based on their belief in superiority of America and its historical mission. Thereby the role of religion and influence of the Christian Right becomes determinative within the Republican Party and its voters. The article is dedicated to the social-economic cooperation of the USA and Canada with Mongolia during the turbulence period of transition to the market economy for more than twenty years of post-communist era. The USA and Canada accomplished many projects of Official Development Assistance to this land-locked country of the North-East Asia. Since 1991 Washington is the main director of "donor's orchestra" and is proved to be one of the main donor of Mongolian people. As to trade-economic relations the Government of Mongolia considers the USA to be the "third neighbor" after Russia and China. The article describes the role of F.D. Roosevelt in the relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union. Objective factors which favored the strengthening of a positive attitude of Roosevelt to the Soviet Union in 1930 and his commitment to the military-political alliance with the Soviet Union in 1941-1945 are discussed. Ambivalent assessment by Roosevelt of Soviet political regime and Stalin is analyzed. It is proved that the death of Roosevelt in 1945 played an important role in deterioration of U.S.-Soviet relations and transition to the Cold War. Keywords: F.D.
