In the paper there are presented the results of the work aimed at constructing the Tver' absolute dendrochronological scale. At present the chronological scale span covers 850 years. Its earliest and latest points now can be dated back to 1064 and 1914 respectively. The dendrochronological investigations of timber from the constructions discovered in the cultural deposit of Tver' has resulted in establishing felling dates (absolute and conventional) of 523 timbers. Construction dates have been established for 123 constructions, precise calendar ones and termini post quem as well.

The authors present an attempt to make clearer the contradictory situation concerning Alakul and Fedorovka cultures on the basis of archaeological materials from a local region of Andronovo cultural unit. Interrelation of these two cultures is the key issue in the Andronovo studies. Two alternative solutions are widely discussed: 1 - transformation of Alakul culture into Fedorovka one; 2 - the discussed cultures are different entities, their interaction being mirrored by mixed associations. The authors state that Fedorovka culture was not formed on local Alakul base in the forest-steppe region near Chelyabinsk. The bearers of the cultural traditions demonstrated by the materials of Fedorovka and Alakul-Fedorovka types could have come from the Kazakhstan steppes only. It is from here that this specific cultural complex spread to the areas east from the Urals, and even to the forest-steppe zones in West Siberia, the Altai piedmonts, the Kuznetsk depression, and the Yenisey valley. Migrations of the steppe tribes to alien cultural environment and their interaction with the aboriginal groups had caused emergence of Andronovo culture. As for the forest-steppe east from the Urals, local Alakul population was ethnically related to the newcomers and developed similar economies. Judging from archaeological material, the two cultures were not equal in their interaction; the processes of deep integration and consolidation developed parallel simultaneously. As a result of such complex interaction original Fedorovka culture had come into being. In the territory east from the Urals it is represented almost only by burials and pottery, the latter is viewed by the authors as the migrants’ sub-culture. Cultural situation in the region had not changed cardinally, local Alakul culture held domination, economy and everyday life of local tribes also remained unchanged. The newcomers’ crave to preserve and stress their ethnicity and cultural identity in alien though related environment could have been performed in sacral sphere only. Consequently, certain elements of burial rite were exaggerated as they never were in the motherland: 100% cremation, exceptionally labour-consuming earthen burial constructions and stone enclosures. Fedorovka cultural complex should be acknowledged an original phenomenon within Andronovo cultural unit of exclusively trans-Uralian nature; therefore the term seems to be incorrect, when applied to the related cultures in central and eastern territories of Andronovo area. There are sufficient grounds to single out a stage in the Late Bronze Age in the steppe east from the Urals typified by coexistence and interaction of the cultural traditions of Alakul and Fedorovka types.
